ESSAY Magazine (An International Journal of Sexaholics Anonymous)
The mission of ESSAY is to serve as a source of information, experience, strength and hope to sexaholics, both inside and outside the rooms of Sexaholics Anonymous. Our vision is to provide a high-quality “meeting in print” that gathers together members from around the world. It can serve as a portable “extra meeting” especially for loners and for members who don’t have access to many meetings. In addition, Essay serves as an outreach tool to carry the message to those who have not yet found SA. We strive to include a mix of stories and shares from a wide variety of members, including men and women, prisoners, and international members. In addition, ESSAY provides Fellowship announcements and information on subjects such as new meetings, Fellowship events, and our service structure. We hope that all of the articles we publish will offer useful information and provide experience, strength, and hope to all who suffer from the disease of sexaholism. Fellowship actvities such as international conventions, regional events and local events appear in the Calendar section. Each issue has a theme and various sections to share sexaholic stories and practical tools. In addition to letters and group news, ESSAY offers short, edited articles written by members about recovery and our solution. The Practical Recovery Tools section features members sharing on the topic, “Exactly how I did it.” Submissions may also include meditations, poetry, and humor. ESSAY is guided by the principles of the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts. Each issue contains the following statement:

Soy parte del dúo que da la bienvenida a los recién llegados en un grupo de correo electrónico de SA llamado SA Net. SA Net actualmente tiene más de 1000 miembros donde la mayoría hace la transición para reunirse en Zoom, dejando muy pocos para participar activamente por correo electrónico. Soy una de esos pocos miembros y he encontrado una gran recuperación no solo al participar en SA Net sino también prestando servicio.

Just before I came to SA, I hit my personal rock bottom. On the outside, it was not so obvious that my life had become unmanageable. I was still married with children, had my health, a home, a job and a community. But inside I was at my most desperate and darkest hour.

CONNECTING WITH A HIGHER POWER
Two of the best tools in my “spiritual toolkit” for connecting with the Divine Intelligence (along with working the Steps, attending meetings, talking with my sponsor, and service work in the SA fellowship) are singing and playing (or listening to) music. Music is a lifelong passion for me and an important component of my recovery.

Back around 2003, at my old home group in Philadelphia, we developed an orientation meeting for newcomers. We had written to a number of intergroups around the world, asking if they did orientation meetings for newcomers. Many wrote back sharing their orientations, and we combined ideas that we received in order to create one that we felt worked best for us. Our goal was to help the newcomer feel as welcome as possible and reduce any apprehension that he or she might have. After all, we would tell them, from our own experience, we were all well-aware that the hardest thing they may have ever done was to get out of their car, walk across that parking lot and open the door to ask for help.

When anyone, anywhere
reaches out for help,
I want the hand of SA always to be there. And for that: I am responsible".SA Service Manual – Last side

Spiritual life is not a theory, you have to life it.
Spiritual life is not a theory, you have to life it.
Like the clown on the bus tries to find his way
like anybody else.
the red nose on his face many costumes to ware
he tries to find himself.
No matter where you come from,
no matter where you go to,
you have to life it.
Meine Spiritualität in ihrer
Unvollkommenheit das bin ich.
Gott will einfach nur meine Zufriedenheit
Reach out your hand, feel the connection every time.
Just work it not think it, keep it simple and the spirit will shine
No matter where we come from,
no matter where we go to,
we have to life it.
No matter where we come from,
no matter where we go to,
we have to life it.
To life it, to life it, to life it …
Translation German Lyrics:
My spirituality in its Imperfection that is me.God simply wants my satisfactioncomes into meThe spiritual life is not theoreticalwe have to live it.Spiritual life is not theoreticalwe have to live it.The only one who moves away from Him, that is me.My Higher Power is in the present you recognize me.No matter where you come from no matter where you go, you have to live it.No matter where we come from no matter where we go, we have to live it.

Singing The Slogans - Ben V & Marcel S - The Netherlands

In 2018 an SA/S-Anon couple traveled around our region with their workshop “Slogans Save Lives.” They shared how they use both Slogans and Traditions for their everyday recovery, both individually and as a couple. Music and humor gave the workshop a light touch. We sang some recovery songs that were handed out on paper.
More and more I’ve come to see the value of Slogans. They are simple and spot on, whereas I tend to complicate things. They are little capsules of experience, strength and hope. Rhyme, rhythm, and alliteration make them easy to remember. I enjoy turning them into songs. They make great titles too.
Two sheets of Slogans that my former sponsor gave me came in handy when, at the 2019 Madrid International Convention, the motto turned out to be “Living The Slogans.” In my song “Living The Slogans”, * the verses consisted solely of Slogans.
