ESSAY Magazine (An International Journal of Sexaholics Anonymous)
The mission of ESSAY is to serve as a source of information, experience, strength and hope to sexaholics, both inside and outside the rooms of Sexaholics Anonymous. Our vision is to provide a high-quality “meeting in print” that gathers together members from around the world. It can serve as a portable “extra meeting” especially for loners and for members who don’t have access to many meetings. In addition, Essay serves as an outreach tool to carry the message to those who have not yet found SA. We strive to include a mix of stories and shares from a wide variety of members, including men and women, prisoners, and international members. In addition, ESSAY provides Fellowship announcements and information on subjects such as new meetings, Fellowship events, and our service structure. We hope that all of the articles we publish will offer useful information and provide experience, strength, and hope to all who suffer from the disease of sexaholism. Fellowship actvities such as international conventions, regional events and local events appear in the Calendar section. Each issue has a theme and various sections to share sexaholic stories and practical tools. In addition to letters and group news, ESSAY offers short, edited articles written by members about recovery and our solution. The Practical Recovery Tools section features members sharing on the topic, “Exactly how I did it.” Submissions may also include meditations, poetry, and humor. ESSAY is guided by the principles of the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts. Each issue contains the following statement:

یک سال پیش وقتی وارد اولین جلسه دراپلیکیشن زوم شدم احساس نگرانی کردم، چون مختلط بود. من یک سوال داشتم، چطور در میان مردان هوشیار بمانم؟ آنچه در ابتدا به من قوت قلب دوباره می داد روشی بود که در آن اعضا به همراه تاریخ هوشیاری شان خود را معرفی می کردند. اما من در این موضوع گزینه دیگری برای انتخاب نداشتم، من باید بر ترسهایم غلبه کرده، و برای آموختن اینکه چطور هوشیار بمانم و بهبودی عمیق تری داشته باشم به جلسه باز می گشتم؛ و من انجامش دادم. من به شرکت در جلسات مختلط روزانه در زوم بعلاوه شرکت در یک جلسه هفتگی مختص بانوان ادامه دادم

I have been in the program since 2010. I have been allowed to be sober for 13 years and am grateful to have been asked to write an article about men and women in the community.
This, of course, reminds me of where I come from. A first encounter with women in SA was an absolute threat to me. I was full of fantasies, imaginings, and desires. I was driven sheer crazy by the mere knowledge that a woman might be seated in the next meeting. In the beginning, I didn't realize that these women were sitting in that meeting because of the same problem I was having. With the onset of sobriety starting in 2013, this attitude slowly changed.

Some years ago, we started an online Persian SA meeting, which was the first online SA meeting as well as the first mixed meeting in our fellowship in Iran. In the beginning, there were some technical and online cultural issues but overall no major problems.

My name is Mike M. and I’m a sexaholic. I’ve been one since before I even understood what lust was. I’ve been sober over two years now thanks to the 12 steps of SA, working with a sponsor, and a Power greater than myself that I try not to understand, but to experience. How have you been practicing healthy boundaries in our mixed fellowship?
The poignant narrative of Arpita on pages 12-14 underscores that we are all fellow travelers on a spiritual journey who struggle with similar challenges. It’s tempting to attribute our discomfort to the opposite sex, but true insight reveals that the root of addiction lies within ourselves.
